Goodwill Launches Game-Changing Initiative to Help Adults Successfully Transition to Life After Prison

October 19, 2023

(Greenville, SC) – Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina (GIUMSC) is proud to announce the launch of Pathway Home 4, an innovative and transformative program aimed at providing job training and educational opportunities for those currently incarcerated and recently released.

The funding for the program is thanks to a grant awarded to Goodwill Industries International (GII) by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). This funding will support the current Pathway Home program already underway at GIUSMC. Pathway Home 4 is designed to address the critical need for rehabilitation and reintegration support for individuals in the criminal justice system. This program aligns with Goodwill’s mission of helping people achieve their full potential through the power of work, and it reflects the organization’s deep-rooted commitment to improving the lives of those who have faced incarceration and its associated challenges.

Pathway Home 4 represents a vital step toward reducing recidivism rates, enhancing public safety, and creating a more equitable and inclusive society. By empowering individuals with the holistic services they need to succeed, GIUMSC aims to break the cycle of incarceration and promote a brighter future for all community members.

“We believe everyone deserves a second chance and the opportunity to rebuild their lives,” said Pat Michaels, President and CEO of GIUMSC. “Pathway Home 4 is a testament to our commitment to providing individuals with the support and resources they need to overcome the challenges of reintegration and create generational success for themselves and their families.”

GIUMSC invites the community, employers, and stakeholders to support this life-changing initiative by offering employment and mentorship opportunities. For more information about the Pathway Home program, visit https://www.goodwillsc.org/career-services/programs/pathway-home/.

The Goodwill LifeLaunch: Pathway Home Program is made possible with a $4 million Pathway Home Grant award from the DOL’s Employment and Training Administration, covering 100% of operating costs.
